What do you need to know when buying a Kocoono Weighted Blanket?
Kocoono Weighted BASIC or Kocoono Weighted Blanket LUXE? Which one do I choose?
Kocoono Weighted Blanket LUXE
The Kocoono™ Weighted Blanket LUXE is the first product we launched. It is the most popular as it is slightly more versatile than the BASIC. The main feature that makes it unique is the customisation: you can remove the inner weighted bands in various parts of the Kocoono Blanket to suit your needs as opposed to the Kocoono BASIC, which is one large weighted blanket with an outer cover assembled by 12 ties. The Kocoono™ LUXE version is more versatile as the inner weighted bands are segmented and it moves with you with more ease. It also has an integrated shoulder embrace that allows the weighted element to come up around your shoulder area that creates a nice grounding feeling. This feature cocoons your body from the top and create the feeling of a hug, which is really comforting to fall asleep
You might find this blog handy that explains all the features of the Kocoono LUXE weighted blanket: https://www.kocoono.com/blogs/blogs/what-makes-kocoono-weighted-blanket-luxe-unique.
Kocoono Weighted Blanket BASIC
We have had customers asking for the same benefits as the Kocoono™ Weighted Blanket Luxe, just with fewer features, so we went back to the drawing board and created Kocoono™ Weighted Blanket Basic.
This new design is a simpler and less adaptable weighted blanket but still designed to provide you with the same benefits as Kocoono™ Weighted Blanket Luxe
It has simplicity at its core while keeping the same benefits as Kocoono™ Luxe, using Deep Touch Pressure to reduce lifes stresses.
With its simple design, it loses some of the unique features of the Kocoono™ Luxe. The Kocoono™ Basic does not have the integrated shoulder embrace or customisable weighted bands as Kocoono™ Luxe and as such, retails at a reduced price point. As you can imagine, customisation increases the labour time and cost significantly, so we want our customers to have access to quality sleep whatever the budget!
Both provide Pressure Therapy and are Machine Washable
Both Kocoono Weighted Blanket LUXE and BASIC are machine washable. The Kocoono Weighted Blanket BASIC has an inner weighted blanket and an outer cover with 12 inner ties, so you untie these (and tie them again) if you are looking to remove the outer cover for washing or other purposes.
Both apply Deep Touch Pressure Therapy, which helps calm your Nervous System, slowing your heart rate and making you feel embraced, calm and relaxed immediately.
You can learn more about how Pressure Therapy works here.
Can an older person use a Kocoono Weighted blanket?
Yes, they can. The recommendation to choose Kocoono Blanket is approx 10% of the body weight. However, we always recommend to chose a lighter option for elderly We get great feedback from both Kocoono™ Weighted Blankets, but we think that we Kocoono ™ Weighted Blanket LUXE is more comfortable for an older person as we use silicone balls to plump up the weighted channels, so it feels cosier and more similar to a duvet. The BASIC version has a thin layer of wadding in addition to the weighted glass beads, so the weight can feel somewhat more concentrated at times!
Can children use a Kocoono weighted blanket?
The Kocoono™ weighted Blanket LUXE is suitable for children aged 4 and over. When it comes to our little ones our Kocoono™ LUXE is customisable. We recommend starting with the 5 kg weighted blanket (as this is our lightest weight) and removing the required weighted bands to suit your child. We have approximately 10 channels of weighted bands that can be removed and re-inserted as your child grows. So your child will be able to grow with their Kocoono™ Blanket, and you can add the weights as they grow.
How do you choose the right weight for a Weighted Blanket?
-
Your Kocoono should weigh 10% of your body Weight.
The most important thing to consider is the weight. The recommended weight of the Kocoono is 10% of your body weight, so 5kg is suitable if you are 50kg (8 stone), 7kg is suitable if you are 70kg (11 stone), and the 9kg is suitable if you are 90kg+ (14 stone). This can vary based on personal preference. Some people do have a preference for lighter or heavier. It also depends on your own sensory needs! This preference also depends if you are used to sleeping with a lot of weight on you usually.
-
If you weigh in-between two weights...
If 10% of your body weight is between the Kocoono Weighted Blanket 5 kg and the 7Kg, you should think about how used you are to sleep with weight and if you find relief from extra pressure. If the response is affirmative, you might need to go for the 7Kg.
In case you are between the 7Kg and the 9Kg Weighted Blanket, we recommend you to choose the lighter option. From our customer base so far, we do find that the 9 Kg is a big step. We also find that women are more sensitive to the deep touch pressure, so they tend to benefit from rounding down unless they have a strong need for the pressure.
- Can I order additional weights if it is too light?
We don't sell the weighted bands separately at the moment. You can remove the weighted bands to suit your needs or leave all of them. All the Kocoono weighted blankets come fully assembled, and some people don't remove any of the weighted bands.
For example, if you would like to apply the pressure on the legs, you could remove the weights on the upper part of the Blanket and leave the weighted bands on the lower area. You can always add any of the weighted bands to the freezer and reinsert back into the Kocoono Weighted Blanket for a cooling effect or place on your forehead like some of our customers do to ease migraines or anxiety.
You will find the best way to use it when you try the Kocoono Blanket. Everyone is different and has different needs, so this is the best part of Kocoono LUXE, that you can customise the weight to suit your needs.
What happens if your weighted blanket is too heavy or too light?
It can take up to 14-28 days for the body to fully adjust to your Kocoono weighted blanket and achieve the benefits it was designed to provide. It can feel like a strange phenomenon when using it initially as the body is not used to such deep touch pressure. If you feel that the weight is too heavy or too light after this period, we can arrange a 'swapit'. This means our courier would collect the Blanket that is not suitable and give you the one that suits you better. That wouldn't be a problem! Just ensure you hold onto the original box and packaging.
We want happy customers and recognise that everyone is different, we offer the swapit option if you feel the Blanket is too heavy or too light. It is so so important to get the weight right so you can fully experience the benefits of the Kocoono weighted blanket so we try to make it as easy as possible to ensure customer satisfaction.
What is the size of Kocoono Weighted Blanket?
The dimensions for the Kocoono are 110cm x 195cm. They are designed to fit the body not the bed, if they are any larger the weighted pressure will remain on the bed whereas it is necessary to have the deep touch pressure concentrated on you, and with this size it cocoons you properly.
If the Kocoono weighted blanket was too large and any part of it hung over the side or the end of the bed it would simply pull the entire blanket off the bed which may disturb your sleep further.
Will Kocoono Weighted Blanket replace my duvet?
Kocoono is not designed for heat per se, so we always recommend using it with a duvet in Winter as the idea is not to replace your duvet. We have many customers in Ireland and the UK that would use both all year round.
In any case, the way you use it is a matter of preference, and all of our customers use it differently and you will find which works best for you and your own personal preference. Some people prefer to use just their Kocoono others use it on top of or underneath the duvet.
From our customer base, we found that the most comfortable way to use it is on top of the duvet in Winter and on top of a sheet in Summer.
We recommend using a sheet between yourself and your Kocoono just to prevent washing.
Colours & Fabrics
The Kocoono LUXE has two fabrics to choose from,
- minky on one side and 100% cotton on the other,
- then velvet on one side and 100% cotton on the other.
The Velvet would be better for summer as the hairs are shorter and would trap the heat less. The velvet fabric is till very soft and has a slightly textured feel to it.
The colour and fabric combinations we have in the Kocoono weighted blanket LUXE are:
1. Turquoise Minky and Navy Cotton
2. Grey Minky and Peach Cotton
3. Fuschia Minky and Navy Cotton
4.Turquoise Velvet and Navy Cotton
5. Grey Velvet and Peach Cotton.
If you go to the Kocoono Luxe page , you can choose from the different fabric and colour combinations from the menu.
In the Velvet in the Kocoono Weighted Blanket BASIC version we just have the Velvet Fabric and the following colours:
1. Turquoise Velvet and Navy Cotton
2. Grey Velvet and Peach Cotton.
